A Certified Tobacco Treatment Training Program (CTTTP)

West Virginia University School of Dentistry in cooperation with the Health Sciences Center’s Office of Interprofessional Education is recognized nationally/internationally as one of twenty-five Tobacco Treatment Training Programs and is certified by the Council of Tobacco Treatment Training Programs (CTTTP). Professionals in the fields of medicine, dentistry, social work, pharmacy, nursing and public health will present evidence-based strategies to enable attendees to effectively assist their patients/clients/ communities with tobacco cessation.
Continuing Education Credit
Physicians: 24.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CME credits, Day one option - 8.75 CME
Nurses: 29.5 contact hours, Day one option - 10.4 hrs
Nurse Pharmacology: 6.4 contact hours, Day one option 5.2 hrs.
Dentists/Hygienists: 24.5 ADA CERP credits, Day one - 8.75
Pharmacists: 25.8 contact hours, Day one - 8.66 hours
Social Workers: 24.5 contact hours, Day one - 8.75 hrs
Respiratory Therapists: 29.3 contact hours, Day one -10.4 hrs
Addiction Treatment Professionals and Licensed Professional
Counselors: 24.5 contact hours, Day one option - 8.75 hrs.
This course is recommended for physicians, physician assistants, dentists, dental hygienists, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, respiratory therapists, licensed practicing counselors, health care providers that encounter tobacco using patients/clients.
Throughout the Tobacco Treatment Training Program, lectures, role-playing and case presentations will be utilized to discuss pharmacological and counseling interventions with patients interested in tobacco cessation. The case presentations will involve patients with relatively healthy medical conditions to patients having multiple medical problems. Alternative nicotine delivery methods such as the electronic cigarette, smokeless tobacco and more recent products will be discussed.
Eligibility Criteria: CTTTP Scholarships all cover the registration fee ($660) with one grant including 2 nights hotel accommodation. To apply, interested individuals who work within West Virginia must provide a ≤ 200-word personal statement that states the desire for hotel accommodation and includes:
- For Pharmacists working within West Virginia: a personal interest in tobacco treatment as it applies to your workplace, institution and/or community and commitment to promote your tobacco treatment specialist expertise through WV Health Connection.
- For WVU Potomac State School of Nursing Faculty or WVU HSC faculty: a personal interest in tobacco treatment as it applies to implementation within your community, institution, and/or patient care and commitment to promote your tobacco treatment specialist expertise through WV Health Connection.
- For West Virginia healthcare providers or teachers: a personal interest in tobacco prevention & treatment including special populations and/or youth vaping within schools along with a commitment to promote your tobacco treatment specialist expertise through WV Health Connection.
Submit scholarship application to the link below by May 5, 2023. Applications are reviewed upon receipt, and there are a limited number of scholarships. Submissions prior to the May 5, 2023 deadline are strongly encouraged.
