Target Audience

Psychiatrists, psychiatry residents, psychologists, therapists, clinical social workers, counselors, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and mental health researchers.

Objectives

  • Discuss the definition of measurement-based care (MBC), advantages of MBC, criteria of MBC tools, and barriers to MBC implementation in clinical practice

  • Describe the types of psychiatric measures such as screening questionnaires, diagnostic interviews (fully-structured vs. semi-structured), and rating scales (clinician-report vs. self-report)

  • Recognize scales that are commonly used in MBC such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ), Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) and other scales

  • Identify the psychometric properties of measures such as validity (content, criterion, and construct validity), reliability (inter-rater, test-retest, and internal consistency reliability), and important indices (sensitivity, specificity, Kappa statistic)

  • Recognize the Standard for Clinicians’ Interview in Psychiatry (SCIP) principles of assessment of psychopathology and the SCIP scales
