This symposium provides evidence-based strategies for managing complex trauma, including pediatric, maternal, spinal cord, bleeding, and mass-casualty care. Participants will explore multidisciplinary approaches and quality improvements to enhance trauma outcomes.

Symposium Objectives

Following participation in this symposium, participants should be able to:

  • Identify strategies to improve pediatric trauma outcomes through injury prevention, specialized trauma care, provider readiness, and evidence-based practices.

  • Define principles of effective bleeding control, including appropriate tourniquet use, risks of misuse, and indications for tourniquet conversion and repositioning.

  • Apply mass-casualty triage principles and coordinated EMS and trauma center communication to prioritize patients and facilitate timely definitive care.

  • Describe the initial assessment and management of the traumatically injured pregnant patient and identify common trauma complications.

  • Explain the multidisciplinary management of the spinal cord injury patient during the first 72 hours following trauma.

  • Identify key quality improvements in trauma care through case reviews.

  • Discuss comprehensive pediatric trauma care and recognize emerging treatment algorithms.

Target Audience

This symposium is designed for all healthcare providers and pre-hospital care emergency medical services personnel.
